hey everone

i hope our friends in the US and A had a good holiday.  i spent the night tracking.
i am a little behind schedule but there is good reason. i haven’t really spoken much about the lyrics and songs and themes for this record so i figured i’d let you in on a couple things.

 

i intentionally came into the studio without one lyric or vocal idea. The majority of the songs written for this record were written on the fly by us jamming in the bus. Two hours later we had a song. After touring we continued that spontaneous style of writing and it was an amazing feeling feeding off of each others ideas and just seeing where the riffs would take us. i feel this is chimaira in it’s purest and most vulnerable form.

 

i felt that i wanted to harness that same raw talent on the microphone as well.  I basically freestlye over a song, find patterns i like or words i might say and then build from there. I construct the lyrics and then go in to track it. After that I sit on it for a day, and then come back and fix things here and there.

 

i’ve done this method in the past with songs like Power Trip, Severed, Paralyzed, Down Again, Pure Hatred, etc.. so it’s not a new thing for me.  But to do an entire record like this, that’s a first.

 

i have four songs left at this point and i wish i had more. this is the most fun i’ve had doing vocals for a record ever.

 

i also wanted to talk about how cool chris’ samples are coming out. he is taking these songs to another level. he has always been able to do that with our songs, but this time around he is really prominent and some of his parts carry parts of the song rather than just adding a layer. we even have one song where it’s just him and i for a couple of parts. It’s definitely different and exciting.

    Thats the main thing dude, your having fun doing what you do, never lose that.
    You guys are a fucking huge inspiration to so many people.
    Are you sure its Chris or Morgoth doing those samples? =P
    Jokes aside, cant wait to hear the new album guys as I’m sure you cant wait to hear the finished product too.
    You named some of your best tracks in my opinion Mark for doing what your doing now for the entire album. So I can already tell your gonna come out with some lyrical greatness like you always do.

    Fuck yeah, a couple of webisodes ago, you can hear a lot of what Chris is doing during one of the riffs, it was a wicked sample.

    That aside, I think its a good thing that you are writing that way. Like you said, pure and vulnerable.

    Awesome, man! So glad to hear how happy you are feeling, considering just a couple years ago you felt almost ready to call it quits! You guys are well overdue to feel so good and free with your music, so, majoy kudos! Keep up the great work and I know it’s gonna turn out incredible!

    You didnt write any lyrics? WTF? Did you say freestylin?…. Power Trip, Severed, Paralyzed, Down Again, Pure Hatred, those songs are all one liner songs? Too catchy.

    I have to agree with that Edd guy up there…your an inspiring band, and you named a good list of the greatest songs…you just forgot Dehumanizing..greatest song in my opinion, anyway keep having fun with what your doing and keep releasing bad ass records and keep the fans alive within you

    personally, I see Mark as more an inspiration to myself rather than Chris…as a singer anyway…dont know jack shit about computers, but all six of you are kick ass and I hope to see you back here in NOLA sometime soon after the record is done

    my only wish is that i wish i lived somewhere else so i could get to see you guys live, so far i make my own concert tickets and tear the stubs myself and put on your guys dvd and pretend i’m there at the concert and mosh fucked in my room, hahaha pretty lame i know, but we don;t get much live bands coming here, so gotta inprovise haha. anyways you guys are such legends to me!!! i’d do anything to see you guys live than on a dvd

    wheres the CRITICS here!!!!i have high expectation from this new album!!! I think it might be the turning point in whether Chimaira is my favorite band anymore or not..for so long i loved this band…BUT YOU GUys need to STEP IT UP WITH SOME FUCKIN MURDEROUSLY ANGRY SHIT.     Lumps is right guys. Mark Hunter is not even writing lyrics anymore, he says he’s just making shit up as he goes. He’s just winging it…having fun he says. You don’t write songs like Six or a whole album like Resurection by just winging it.

    Oh yeah definatly, they’re self titled was the downturn point in the band, Ressurection was that step back up with the re-surgence of Andols and everyone happy once again lol After watching a few vids and stuff, they seem pretty pumped up for this one..
