We are pleased to announce that Emil Werstler will be handling lead guitar duties for Chimaira in 2012

Fans already know Emil from the Coming Alive DVD, the insane guitar solo at the end of “Samsara”, and most recently on stage playing bass for The Age Of Hell tour.

For those that don’t know, time to get familiarized. Listed as one of modern metal’s most important guitar players, Mr. Emil Werstler.

  4. no offense, but mark=chimaira, and emil=more fkn awesome!!!!!

  5. Jeremy

I respect everything going here with the band, and excited and the same time, I guess the biggest question is why? Why the all of sudden changes, that actually weren’t so sudden to begin with, wth is goin on?

  6. Joe

@Bob, How do you know that Matt and Rob joined Six Feet Under?

  7. Jon

@Joe I haven’t seen it personally but Six Feet Under on Wikipedia reckons that Rob & Matt have stated they have joined full time, they did tour with them so it’s possible but I’m sure we’ll find out soon.

  8. Jeff

if the album is epic, i accept all the changes made into this band.

    Long Live Chimaira!!! \m/

Emil is a bad ass but this is not Chimaira. Mark Hunter has become the new Axl Rose. In my opinion they can’t keep using the Chimaira name. It’s simply a Chimaira cover band. For me, that’s just a hard pill to swallow. I loved Chimaira. For me Chimaira is Mark,Rob,Andols,Chris,Matt & Jim (Hager too). Mark alone is NOT Chimaira. Plus I just heard Rob & Andols have a new band together, which really makes me wonder WTF really happened within the Chimaira camp because I don’t believe the REAL truth has come out yet.

I seen an Interview on youtube with Chris Barnes saying that Rob has been Like a Machine Crankin out new songs for a new Six Feet under Album. I also Seen an Interview with Rob saying that they have been Writing Material for an Album That should be released in the Spring of 2012…Im very excited to see what the newly rejuvenated six feet under will sound like im equally excited to find out what the full line up of Chimaira will be.

What the fuck is happening to them. First Andols left now rob and matt are gone?? way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of pass out of existence, with the band breaking up. Cause no matter how badass emil may be, no one will compare to the orginial line-up. Side projects is one thing but leaving entirely come on guys. Rob and austins side project “The Elite” was cool and now austin is the drummer for chimaira. Sorry Austin go back to “Bleed the Sky” and give andols his spot back. I love Age of Hell, but i still put in impossiblity of reason or ressurection before age anyday. This is like hearing Mark, Chris, and Willie leaving lamb of god! Its just heartbreaking. After so many years of putting out amazing music and building the fan base you guys have, its disrespectful to us, the fans to break up, like get over yalls petty bullshit differences and continueing going strong. Yall honestly think i wanna listen to emil playing powertrip or pure hatred or Austin doing that narly drum solo in severed, from existence… Fuck NO, thats rob matt and andols work. i hate to say it but without the originals this band will suck ass, and ive been a fan this this present darkness, know everysingle song. I honestly cannot go see you guys play live again and see emil playing robs solos and his music, i dont give a fuck if emil can play the guitar with his asshole hairs. He wont ever compare to rob or be a part of this band, and neither will austin or whoever they get to replace matt and if your a true chimaira fan you would agree.

Sorry, Zee, but that “if you’re a true Chimaira fan” bullshit does not work. A real fan of the band would give the changes a chance before completely writing off all new players. Yes, Rob, Matt, and Anders are a crucial part of what made people love Chimaira’s sound, but that does not make them exclusively Chimaira. Regardless of their reasons, these changes are out of your hands and because the band felt it was time. Next thing you assholes seem like you’re planning after whining about lineup changes is to waltz into Rob’s new band and try to assassinate him just because he is not doing what YOU expect him to do. Don’t be that arrogant prick at the Damageplan show. Accept that bands don’t last forever with the same line-up. Look how fucking long it took Black Sabbath to announce a reunion tour with Ozzy. Nobody’s bashing them for changing their line-up over the years. If you truly respect a band and its members, stop being douchebags and invest time in their new sounds before making asinine judgements. Ok, true. The new GNR sucks. You would not have known that UNTIL you heard it.
It’s not disrespectful to fans to need to make changes within the band. That’s just a fucking lame excuse to whine some more. It IS disrespectful to members of the band to assume you have any right to tell them what to do with their careers. These musicians work their asses off for years at a time to produce material that you enjoy. If they need a break from each other, regardless of reason, they’ve fucking earned every right to do whatever the hell they want with their amazing talents and it’s YOUR job as a fan to shut the fucking hell up and either listen to the new line-up, respect and enjoy it, or find another band to leech onto and assume you know what’s best for them, especially if your spelling and grammar is not the least bit commendable.
If you are so obsessed with Rob that you will not give any of Mark’s new ideas a chance, then go look at the new Six Feet Under material. In the meantime, being a real fan of Chimaira means giving everything a chance before you judge it unworthy. I even enjoyed the remix EP. It was a new approach to the songs and given Mark’s interest in NIN, I am surprised that they have not tried this sort of experimentation before now. As long as Mark is fronting the band and calling it Chimaira, it will remain as such. Being a fan of Daath, thus far I am pleased with the selection process. I respect every member of the band, past and present and look forward to all the epic shit that Emil and all the other new members bring to the table, as well as checking out the new projects that all former members are involved in.

real fans will give new line up chance, I am excited to see new line up, carnt wait for new cd, chimaira make cds this fan will buy them, any body that does not like the changes should shove the cds up there arse and eat some shit

  14. trititiit

changes don’t mean that Chimaira’s music will be worse….it might turn out that Mark will create some amazing stuff as he isn’t “controlled” by Rob and Matt anymore. In my opinion he is the most creative guy in this trio. And new guys will bring new quallity and new ideas to the band.
I’m really excited about new album. Emil proved in Daath that he’s sick guitar player. He isn’t worse than Rob or Matt for sure.

  15. RM

Looking forward to this new lineup. Emil has a vocabulary on the guitar that far surpasses Rob and Matt put together. His soloing is at a level Rob could never touch. I think his riffing style will not only fit the band but breathe new life into it as well. Also don’t forget Mark Hunter plays a decent guitar himself and will surely contribute riffs. I don’t see this being a “GNR situation” I think this band just got a lot better.

  16. Kristian

I don’t know anything about who, what, why or how… just when. While I’m probably more pissed than any fan I know about the “break-up / adjustment”, give the guys a break until you get the final word. I temporarily hated the band when Andols left, then found out he wanted to go another route. Not his fault! What if Rob / Matt love Chimaira but, you know, need to support a family and decided that Six Feet Under would pay the bills better? If I had my choice, I’d work at a golf course, but it wouldn’t pay the bills as well as my current job, so I stick it out. That’s not to say Rob / Matt don’t enjoy SFU, but just one of the million reasons as to why the departure.

I wonder if Mark is the common denominator, but what the hell do I know about the guy? Perhaps if I met them all in person, he could be the greatest guy. But I have no clue. Do you? What if he just wants to smoke weed all the day and everyone’s tired of it? No clue! How about Matt’s new kid? He wants more time at home, so what should he do? Make good money with SFU when he’s gone to support his family, or should he make significantly less money with Chimaira when away from home? Not an easy decision, is it?

Now, I am NOT saying the guys are only in it for the money, but they’re not rich. They need their breaks, more exposure, etc. Until you know what it’s like to do what they do on a daily basis, bust your ass every day, give it all you’ve got, and at tour’s end, come to something that’s NOT a huge house, you might feel different. Just give them a break.

Rob is my favorite musician ever, but don’t kill Emil. Talk around town is that Emil is a helluva guy, and we all know his chops. No, he’s not Rob, and Rob’s style and phenomenal playing makes him tops in my book. But who gives a shit who can shred more, do this, do that? Give them a shot. If they turn out to be Guns ‘N Roses, then so be it. They had a great run, over 10 years.

I personally don’t think it’ll be the same, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t give it a try. Until then, I can only root for each guy and then the band collectively. Cheers to hearing some The Elite, “new” Chimaira, “old” Bleed the Sky, and this new thing with Rob / Andols. Remember, they’re all just people. Not just something that goes into your CD player.

P.S. – If someone talks shit about Austin, I’ll kill ‘em, because he’s the coolest guy in the business!

  17. Jordan

Chimaira is no more. I’m sure the new guys are nice people and great musicians but ‘chimaira’ they ain’t! One man does not make a band and I have huge respect for mark, I really wish he would drop the name and start anew with these new guys. Even if Emil is “”"”"”better”"”"”"”" than rob, he isn’t rob, why would he be happy as a musician just covering robs tunes?
Move on guys, change the name, respect all the great times chimaira had and make new memory’s with the new band.
